From food forest walk to shared lunch.
The timing can shift with weather, season, and your group's pace, but this is the shape of a typical day.
Meet in Ubud if transport is coordinated
Transport is not included by default. If we help coordinate a third-party driver or pickup option, we'll usually meet in Ubud to start the day.
Arrive and meet Made
Coffee, tea, fruit, and a quick orientation before walking into the food forest.
Walk the food forest
Learn how Balinese families identify edible greens, herbs, flowers, rhizomes, corms, and seasonal plants.
Harvest what is ready
Gather ingredients while learning their Balinese names, uses, and stories. Made is an amazing storyteller, so this is where you'll get so much of the rich history.
Palm sap and kitchen prep
See the palm sap process, then move into the outdoor kitchen to clean and prepare the harvest.
Cook together
Make sambal, jamu, palm sugar, and traditional dishes using what your group collected.
Share lunch
Sit down to a full meal made from the plants you foraged and cooked together.
Wrap up
Ask questions, take notes, and head back with a new lens on Bali.
“Community, not commodity.”
Made, Forage Bali guide
Into the jungle
Your group ventures into a private food forest with Made, learning to identify and respectfully harvest seasonal plants that Balinese families know through generations of food practice.
Cook together
Back in the outdoor kitchen, you prepare what you harvested - sambal, jamu, and traditional dishes - using techniques Made and the team know well.
Eat together
The day ends with a shared meal built around what your group learned, harvested, and cooked together.
Practical details before you inquire.
How does pricing work?
The private food forest day is $80 US (about 1.4M IDR) per person with a 2-person minimum. Groups of 8 or more receive 20% off, which makes it $64 US (about 1.1M IDR) per person. Balinese guests 50% off. 50% of your payment goes directly to the teacher leading the day.
Is transport included?
Transport is not included by default. The food forest is about 1.5 hours north of Ubud, and we can share practical driver or pickup options after we know where your group is staying.
Is it safe for beginners and children?
Yes. The experience is beginner-friendly and guided by people who know the local plants. We do not taste anything without positive identification, and the pace can be adapted for children and mixed-age groups.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a refund within 24 hours of booking. After that 24-hour booking window, cancellations are not refundable.
What happens if it rains?
Bali is tropical, so rain can be part of the experience. If weather makes the walk unsafe, we'll adjust timing and move more of the experience into the kitchen.
What do we actually cook?
The menu changes with the season, but a typical day includes sambal, jamu, palm sugar, wild greens, and traditional dishes built around what your group harvested.
What to expect
A full day in Bali's food forest - foraging, cooking, and eating together. We design the experience around your group.
How strenuous is the event?
The day will include walking up and down hills in the Balinese heat. It's not strenuous, but expect medium exertion.
